Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta is seeking a community-oriented professional to join our team as a Health Policy Analyst. Reporting to the Director of Health Authority, the Health Policy Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of Treaty 8 members through policy analysis, advocacy, and strategic collaboration.

This role involves working closely with Treaty 8 First Nations leadership, Health Directors, Elders, youth, and health service partners to analyze government initiatives, develop culturally informed recommendations, and advance health equity. The Health Policy Analyst contributes to shaping responsive health care policies and ensuring that Treaty 8 perspectives and priorities are meaningfully reflected in decision-making at all levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Treaty 8 Heath Policy Analyst is required to review and analyze government initiatives and legislation for possible impacts relating to health, mental health, and related issues within Treaty 8. The Health Policy Analyst will analyze, document, and coordinate recommendations to promote the improvement to health care services available to the members of Treaty 8. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Policy Analysis and Health Advocacy

· Research, review, monitor and analyze provincial and federal government initiatives, legislation, policy and operational plans which affect the health, mental health, health services and self-determination in health for members of Treaty 8.

· Create recommendations and advise the Health Authority, Executive Board, Director of Health Authority and Chiefs on possible impacts.

· Draft proposals for senior management, Health Authority, Executive Board and Chiefs.

Delivering Communications

· Maintaining the flow of information between the staff of the Treaty 8 Health department, the Health Authority, Executive Board, Chief and the Treaty 8 First Nations communities.

· Assemble information in order to assess and communicate the impacts of policy changes being made by the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) to First Nations health in Alberta.

Project Management

· Researching and advocating various issues and concepts which will help to improve health care for First Nation communities.

· Conducts research on a variety of policy areas including writing and analysis as it relates to deliverables relating to First Nations health issues.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate is a culturally grounded and analytical professional with experience in health policy and Indigenous health systems. You are skilled at interpreting complex policies, preparing clear and actionable recommendations, and working collaboratively with Treaty 8 leadership and health partners.

Strong communication, relationship-building, and critical thinking abilities are essential, along with a commitment to advancing health equity for First Nations communities.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Post-secondary degree in Health Sciences, Economics, Public Health Administration or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

· Experience working in health administration field, with an emphasis on First Nations’ community health.

· Knowledge of the issues and challenges in First Nations Health Management and the structure and operations of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada and other Federal/Provincial departments and programs.

· Knowledge of the Canadian Health Care system, other health organizations within Alberta, and Health Canada Non-Insured Health Benefit’s program.

· Knowledge of mental health and addictions programming.

· Demonstrated experience with planning, developing, implementing and evaluating projects and strategies relating to the management of health issues.

· Experience conducting policy analysis with special attention to First Nation communities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Possess valid class 5 AB driver’s license and own or access to a vehicle.

· Willingness and ability to travel extensively within Treaty 8 Alberta Territory and other destinations when required.

· Willing to work flexible schedule. Combination of working remotely, in-office, and at community locations.

· Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.

· Willingness to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.

· Must provide and possess a clear criminal record vulnerable sector check.

· Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
