Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta is a political organization where our member Nations come together to guide collective decision-making and establish legal, political, and economic relationships with other levels of governments.
OUR MANDATE IS TO PROTECT, PROMOTE, BRING TO LIFE, IMPLEMENT, AND SUSTAIN THE TRUE SPIRIT AND INTENT OF TREATY NO. 8, AS LONG AS THE SUN SHINES, THE GRASS GROWS AND THE WATERS FLOW AND UNTIL SUCH TIME AS YIHDA SHOULD REVERSE.
Treaty No. 8 was signed on June 21, 1899, between First Nations and the Imperial Crown. It is the largest treaty of its kind by land mass, encompassing approximately 841,487 square kilometres across what is now the entirety of northern Alberta, northwest Saskatchewan, and significant parts of modern Northwest Territories and British Columbia.
