Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta has been selected to receive a surplus school site from the City of Edmonton in the community of Wedgewood. To support our goal of providing essential housing for our communities, Treaty 8 plans to develop 60 townhome units on the site.
About the Development
Our plan is to offer a mixture of market rate and non-market rental options to support housing options for our community members. For the future tenants of this building, this housing represents an opportunity to find community and housing stability in a beautiful and established neighbourhood.
About Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta
Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta is a political organization where our member First Nations come together to guide collective decision-making and establish legal, political, and economic relationships with other levels of governments.
Site Details:
The site under development for housing is located at Wedgewood Boulevard and 184 Street.
The building will be three storeys and feature a mixture of 3- and 4-bedroom units designed for families.
31 of the units will be non-market housing, offering tenants non-market rent. 29 of the units will be rented at market rates.
The site will include 108 on-site parking stalls for tenants, and 12 visitor parking stalls.

Community Engagement in Wedgewood
Our team at Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta recognizes this development is a new addition to an existing community, and that it will change amenities this community has used and valued for a long time. While the choice of site was not in our hands, we believe this development can be an asset to the community while creating wonderful opportunities for housing for families in need.
Understanding how this development came to this community, we want this development to be successful for both the future tenants and for the community of Wedgewood. We look forward to collaborating with the community on an ongoing basis to maintain an open line of communication through construction and operations of the development.
Engagement Opportunities
We would like to invite members of the community of Wedgewood to join us at an information session to learn about the development and share feedback on elements of our plans including:
- A Memorandum of Understanding and community relationship plan between Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta and the Wedgewood community
- The site name
- Aspects of the design, including exterior colours and materials, fencing colour and materials, fence configuration, and landscaping
